10 Amazon Listing Mistakes Killing Your Conversion Rate
10 listing mistakes we find in almost every Amazon audit — and each one is silently costing you sales. Find out which ones you are making.
If you are selling on Amazon without Brand Registry, you are competing with one hand tied behind your back. Brand Registry is not just an administrative checkbox — it is the gateway to the most powerful selling tools Amazon offers. A+ Content, Sponsored Brands ads, Brand Analytics, Brand Stores, the Brand Referral Bonus program, and Project Zero IP protection are all locked behind Brand Registry enrollment.
Despite this, many sellers either delay enrollment because they think it is complicated, or they enroll and then never actually use the tools. Both are costly mistakes.
You need an active registered trademark in the country where you want to enroll. The trademark must be text-based or an image-based mark containing words, letters, or numbers. If your trademark is still pending, you can use Amazon IP Accelerator to get early access. Gather your trademark registration number, the name of the government agency where you registered, a list of product categories, and images showing your brand name on your product or packaging.
Go to brandregistry.amazon.com and sign in with the Amazon account that will serve as the brand administrator. Enter your brand name exactly as it appears on your trademark certificate — this is where most rejections happen, so match it character for character, including capitalization and punctuation. Upload images of your branding on the product or packaging. Submit the application. Amazon will send a verification code to the contact listed on the trademark office record. Enter this code to complete enrollment. The entire process takes 2 to 10 business days.
A+ Content lets you replace the basic text description with rich media modules that increase conversion rates by 3 to 15 percent. Sponsored Brands ads put your logo, headline, and multiple products at the top of search results. Brand Analytics gives you access to actual Amazon search data including search frequency rank, click share, and conversion share — data that most keyword tools can only estimate. Brand Store lets you build a dedicated multi-page storefront. The Brand Referral Bonus gives you a 10 percent bonus on sales driven from external traffic. And Project Zero enables automated IP protection with zero tolerance for counterfeits.
The most common rejection reason is a brand name mismatch with the trademark certificate. Even a minor difference in capitalization or spacing will cause a rejection. Another frequent error is outdated contact information on the trademark filing, which prevents you from receiving the verification code. Update your trademark contact info before applying.
But the biggest mistake happens after enrollment: not using the tools. We audit sellers every week who have had Brand Registry for a year and never set up A+ Content, never built a Brand Store, and never looked at Brand Analytics. Each of these represents a significant competitive advantage that your competitors are almost certainly using.
At Merxpert, Brand Registry enrollment is included in our account management service. We handle the application, troubleshoot verification issues, and immediately begin building out your A+ Content, Brand Store, and Sponsored Brands campaigns.
